There are several issues that a person with missing teeth may face. The person could experience difficulties speaking and eating particular meals, as well as lose confidence in their smile. Custom-made appliances called dentures are used to replace lost teeth and restore the lost function and look of the mouth. A full set of porcelain or plastic teeth is supported by a plastic base that has been pigmented to resemble gum tissue in complete dentures. The gums and the classic full denture create a seal that keeps the denture in place. They can also be secured in position by joining dental implants that are surgically inserted into the mandibular bone. Following a tooth extraction or loss, the gum tissue heals and changes shape, and the tooth socket begins to fill in with bone. It takes several months for the gums and bone to stabilize after this operation. A traditional complete denture is then created, ideally 8 to 12 weeks following the extraction or loss of the teeth from the mouth.
